SPIRIT Dedicated Support for C54CST is now
available
Important Announcements - C54CST version 2
C54CST chip
version 2 (a.k.a. “CST2”) is available since Fall
of 2002.
CST2 chips have both “SPIRIT” and “TMS”
labels on their top. CST1 chips (labeled “TMX”, no “SPIRIT” label) are
considered outdated and no longer supported. CST2 and CST1 chips software in
ROM is incompatible and applications written for CST1 can be easily migrated to
CST2 (most of the high-level API remained without changes).
Currently supported versions of the Code
Composer Studio (CCS) are 2.10 and 2.20.
CST2 chip contains 40 KW of internal data
RAM, 128 KW ROM and 120 MHz. C54CST ver. 2 are available through TI
distribution channels at $8.25/1KU.
What’s new with C54CST?
1.
Latest version of CST SDK is available for free
download from SPIRIT
website (11 MB). It is enough to download CST SDK to have the latest
version of everything. However, you may choose to download only certain
components of it from here.
2.
Latest CST Patch is now available for download here. It adds some new
functions to CST and fixes known CST bugs, and is applicable for both chipset
and flex modes.
3.
Support for DSP/BIOS has been significantly
enhanced.
4.
Software Add-on algorithms are now available for
licensing from SPIRIT:
§
AEC for full-duplex speakerphone solutions
§
V.29/V.22-based Fast Connect for POS-terminals
algorithm
§
G.723.1 Vocoder algorithm
§
G.729AB Vocoder algorithm
§
G3 Fax data pump algorithms
(V.21,V.27/V.29/V.17)
§
Fax over IP (T.38) with G3 Fax algorithm
§
CST Low Bit Rate Vocoder 1200 bps algorithm
§
Signaling (MF R1, MF R2)
What’s new in CST SDK?
Latest version of CST SDK is available for
free download from SPIRIT website
(11 MB).
Run the file CSTInstall.exe (it is
a self-extracting archive). Specify the destination folder to extract the files
to (it can be any folder, but it is recommended to specify your TI folder,
usually C:\TI\C5400, so that all CST files would reside in C:\TI\C5400\CST), and
press “Install”.
Start with reading CST\readme.shtml.
Documentation
1.
Full set of CST documentation including: CST
algorithms data sheets and user’s guides, data sheets for CST add-ons, related
application notes and revised “CST Chip Software User’s Guide”
2.
The following documents have been added to speed
up getting started with CST:
a.
“C54CST Overview.pdf” - general CST overview
b.
“cst_quickstart.pdf” - getting started with CST
in chipset mode using a 5406 EVM board
c.
“CST_HandsOnLab.pdf” - comprehensive
presentation giving general CST overview and introducing to the CST flex mode
(two simple applications are provided as case study)
d.
“CST2 SDK Release Notes.pdf” - describes latest
modifications and features in the CST SDK
e.
“CST2 FAQ.pdf” - this FAQ may help with your
questions, it’s based on the CST support work
Flex Example Applications
1.
Existing flex applications have been updated and
new flex applications have been added. New applications include: an EventTrace
application to show internal CST Framework messages and applications, an
application working with AIC20 codec, and an application showing DMA operations
with C54CST

2.
A set of standalone XDAS applications has been
added. The purpose of these applications is to show how to use the CST XDAS
algorithms directly, omitting the CST Framework layers
3.
A few new flex application examples added
Utilities
1.
Flex2Flash - allows to burn a flex application,
loaded into CST's RAM, into a Flash on C54CST EVM
2.
FlexLoader - boots a flex application to C54CST
over UART
3.
Hextobin - converts a flex application .out file
to .hex file, whose format is supported by CST bootloader. The .hex file then
can be booted over UART
4.
G726 Converter and G7xxConverter - G726, G711
converters
5.
UMTDcfg - simplifies creation of configuration
files for the CPT and DTMF detectors

Other software (CSL, etc.)
Chip Support Library (CSL) updates for Code
Composer Studio 2.10 and 2.20. These updates were specially corrected for use
with C54CST chip. The CSL update for CCS 2.10 matches the CSL for CCS 2.20
almost entirely, so the functionality of both is identical.
CST and DSP/BIOS
Support for DSP/BIOS has been significantly
enhanced.
1.
The DSP/BIOS program memory overhead has been
minimized in CCS 2.20 projects to the level of CCS 2.10 projects. Previously,
CCS 2.20 DSP/BIOS projects had around 1.5 KW of extra program memory overhead
due to certain CCS incompatibilities.
2.
Memory management and multithreading with
DSP/BIOS have been cleared up in the “CST2 SDK Release Notes.pdf” document. A
few new example projects have been added to the SDK specifically to show how to
run CST framework and algorithms in SWIs, TSKs, how to use either of the memory
managers or both at the same time.
3.
A few important CSL- related adjustments to the
flex example applications have been made. This fixed a number of issues in
DSP/BIOS-based applications making extensive use of CSL.
4.
The problem of using DSP/BIOS Real Time Analysis
Tools such as CPU Load Graph has been fixed in the newest CST patch.
Here are a few successful applications made
on CST with use of DSP/BIOS:
·
VoIP gateway
·
Intelligent Phone for disabled people
